Wide Asleep

Sleepwalking…

Life is faceless. And like a clock on the wall, every second goes either too quickly or too slowly. Goo Goo Dolls summed up the feeling best, saying, “you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming, or the moment of truth in your lies, when everything feels like the movies, yeah you bleed just to know you’re alive…” Yeah—you bleedjust to know you’re alive.

You try desperately to tap out of reality in order to escape to dreaming once again. But as dreams fade, you grow tired and ill from poisonous reality. People claim age is the cure to dreaming too much. Oh, how you wish you’d never met reality. What a foe, that reality! Authored by schedules and routines, to-do lists and expectations—never free! You’re bored. You will spend money, time, and yourself on things for the expensive price of instant gratification and in exchange eternal priceless treasures. Only moments later do you begin to second guess your decision… maybe even years later? With eyes wide open, deprived of life and all its incessant joys you scream in silence… “TELL ME. Is there any hope?”

A profound voice whispers through the darkness, “Awake, O’ sleeper, Awake...”

*******

He continues to speak…

You respond.

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer now than when you first believed.

Wake UP!

The night is far gone; the day is at hand.

Hope.

So then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Dream.

Walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.

Don’t be like everyone else.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

The time is now…

do not be caught asleep.

I am convinced; that sleepwalking is the number one killer in America. To walk around unaware of the life that is going on, the people weaved in and out of your day, and the opportunities passing you by will eventually take your life.

-What if today you woke up a little earlier, went to work and prayer walked around your office or building?

-What if you didn’t cut people off in traffic? (Risk someone else’s life, because YOU are running behind?)

-What if you didn’t just give a homeless man/woman a dollar, but also gave him/her your time? Prayed for him/her? Got to know him/her?

-What if you prayed for Japan, Haiti and those suffering… really suffering?

-What if you gave away all you had?

-What if you chose Christ over yourself?

Yes…

What if you woke up?

Christ is calling. Are you listening?
